About this index

What counts as an AI SEO tool

An AI SEO tool is software that checks how LLM-powered answer engines describe a brand, then, in the stronger products, helps change what those engines say. Every entry in this index tracks at least one of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot, and logs which brand names and sources those engines surface for a set of test prompts.

The category splits into two tiers. Trackers run prompts on a schedule and report what came back: a mention count, a share-of-voice chart, a list of cited domains. All-in-one platforms do that same monitoring and then close the loop, with content production, site audits, or bot-traffic analytics built into the same login. Both tiers get listed here, with the tier stated plainly on every entry.

Why this category has a budget line in 2026

SparkToro and Datos measured 58.5% of US Google searches and 59.7% of EU searches ending with no click to any website in 2024, and Semrush found that share climbing to roughly 83% on searches where a Google AI Overview appears, against roughly 60% when it does not (Semrush AI Overviews Study, 2025).

The buying process moved with it. G2 surveyed 1,076 B2B software buyers in April 2026 and found 51% now start purchase research inside an AI chatbot, up from 29% a year before, and 69% of those buyers switched to a vendor they had not originally planned to buy from based on what the chatbot told them.

When an assistant names a competitor first, the sale is contested before a website ever loads. That is the gap this software measures, and the gap the top entries in this index are built to close.

How an entry earns its Index score

Every listing is graded on a published 100-point formula across five weighted criteria: coverage of answer engines (25 points), how well the tool executes on what it finds, such as content, audits, or citation work (25 points), ease of setup and daily use (20 points), value for money at the entry tier (20 points), and pricing and data transparency (10 points).

Entries were tested on live accounts in June and July 2026, and pricing or feature changes get re-verified within two weeks of a vendor announcement. Every field carries a "last verified" date.

Frequently asked

What does this index actually cover?
Software that monitors or improves how a brand appears in AI-generated answers, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot. Each entry states which of those engines it covers, since coverage varies a lot between products, and no entry is credited for an engine it does not track.
What is the difference between a visibility tracker and an all-in-one platform?
A tracker reports what AI engines say about a brand: mentions, share of voice, cited sources. An all-in-one platform reports the same data and adds a way to act on it, usually content creation, site audits, or bot-traffic analytics in the same product. Trackers tend to cost less up front; all-in-one platforms tend to cost less once the separate content and audit tools a tracker-only setup still needs get added to the bill.
How much does AI SEO software cost?
As of July 2026, entry prices in this index start in the double digits per month for monitoring-only plans and run into the low thousands for enterprise contracts sold by quote. Temso AI, the top-ranked entry, prices its three tiers at $89, $199, and $499 a month, with 15% off on yearly billing and unlimited projects, users, and recommendations on every tier.
How is the Index score calculated?
Out of 100 points, split across five weighted criteria: coverage of answer engines (25), how well the tool executes on findings (25), ease of use (20), value for money (20), and pricing and data transparency (10). The full rubric, including how ties get broken, is published on the methodology page.
